Job summary:
The IT Manager oversees the organization's IT infrastructure, with primary emphasis on managing, securing, and optimizing the Microsoft 365 environment. This includes leading a small IT team, ensuring reliable delivery of cloud-based productivity tools (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Power Platform, etc.), implementing security and compliance policies, and aligning M365 services with business needs. The role blends strategic leadership, team management, vendor coordination, and technical administration in a hybrid or cloud-centric environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the administration and optimization of the Microsoft 365 tenant, including user management, licensing, security configurations, and service health monitoring.
Manage core M365 services such as:
* Exchange Online (email, mailboxes, anti-spam/malware policies)
* Microsoft Teams (collaboration, meetings, channels, governance)
* SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business (document management, permissions, site administration)
* Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) for identity, conditional access, and multi-factor authentication
* Intune/Endpoint Manager for device management and compliance
* Develop and enforce security, compliance, and governance policies (e.g., Data Loss Prevention (DLP), information protection labels, retention policies, eDiscovery, audit logging).
* Oversee migrations, upgrades, and implementations of new M365 features or transitions from on-premises systems (e.g., legacy Exchange/SharePoint to cloud).
* Provide escalation support for advanced troubleshooting, incident resolution, and root-cause analysis of M365-related issues.
* Manage IT team members, support staff and vendors focused on helpdesk, endpoints, and M365 support; assign tasks, provide training, and conduct performance reviews.
* Collaborate with stakeholders (departments, executives, external vendors) to identify business requirements and implement M365 solutions that improve productivity and efficiency.
* Monitor service health, plan for disaster recovery/business continuity in the cloud, and ensure high availability and performance.
* Create and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), training materials, and knowledge base articles for M365 usage and administration.
* Stay current with Microsoft updates, certifications, and best practices; recommend and lead adoption of new features (e.g., Copilot integrations, advanced security tools).
* Manage IT budget aspects related to M365 licensing, add-ons, and third-party integrations and vendors. *Support internal Network, Telephony, Wifi, VOIP installation, configuration and management as necessary.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (CARF, WAC, HIPAA) and internal policies.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* 5–10+ years of IT experience, with at least 3–5 years in Microsoft 365/Office 365 administration and management.
* Proven experience leading IT teams or projects in a managerial capacity.
* Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft 365 admin tools, Entra ID, PowerShell scripting for automation, and Microsoft security/compliance features.
* Relevant certifications highly preferred (e.g., Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, Teams Administrator, Security Administrator, or equivalent).
* Knowledge of hybrid environments (on-premises Active Directory synced with Entra ID), networking basics, and endpoint management.
* Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and project management skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with Azure services, Power Platform development, or Microsoft Defender suite. Background in ITIL processes, change management, or enterprise governance. Familiarity with third-party M365 tools (e.g., backup/recovery solutions, monitoring).
