JOB DESCRIPTION
The Atlanta office of Alston & Bird is looking for an experienced litigation support professional to join the Legal Technology and Consulting Services team. The Technology Project Manager (TPM) will, under limited supervision and according to established policies and procedures, perform a variety of duties to oversee and manage the electronic discovery process in legal cases by consulting with and assisting practice groups and clients in the identification, processing, culling, analysis, facilitation of review, and production of electronically stored information (ESI) in a legally defensible manner. This includes the project management of the overall eDiscovery process, expertise and system administration of Relativity, and implementation of quality control workflows and procedures. The TPM will supervise and delegate work to Project Analysts to accomplish these goals, work closely with Discovery Consultants and Discovery Review Consultants, and maintain positive contact with firm members and clients while maintaining confidentiality of client matters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Exercise independent discretion and judgment with respect to matters of significance on firm and client matters
Consult with practice groups and clients on the effective use of Relativity for processing, culling, analysis, document review and production of documents
Consult with practice groups and clients on strategies to utilize technology to defensibly, cost effectively, and efficiently cull, analyze, review and produce data
Create, manage, search, and archive Relativity workspaces
Collaborate closely with Staff Attorneys to help design, support and manage workflows on document reviews
Evaluate and help respond to RFPs and bids, including third party vendor bids
Develop and document protocols for effective handling of data throughout the EDRM workflow
Provide training to case teams on the use of technology
Assist in the development of case estimates and projections
Facilitate ongoing communication with review and case teams to fulfill client needs
Assist practice groups with custom requests for individual case needs (searching, batching of documents, adding new users to workspace)
Provide technical support, problem identification and resolution for Relativity
Evaluate new litigation technology as requested
Maintain general knowledge of 3rd party review tools
Stay current with industry standards, procedures, and certifications
Supervise project analysts in the completion of technology team projects and duties
Meet or exceed the firm’s billing goal for this position
Work often requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position and can require irregular hours
Maintain daily time entries in compliance with firm policies and deadlines
Perform any additional duties or special projects required by client needs
Maintain confidentiality of all firm/client matters
SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
Relativity Certified Administrator
Preferred Relativity Expert Status with Relativity Analytic Specialist Certification
Strong understanding of the electronic discovery reference model (EDRM)
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong project and time management skills
Proficient in data analysis and transfer tools (Excel, Textpad, NotePad++, 7Zip, WinZip, RoboCopy, ViceVersa, Bulk Rename Utility, etc.)
Ability to comprehend and interpret verbal and written concepts to facilitate the accurate completion of a task
Work requires the ability to make sound decisions in the absence of clear instructions
Ability to establish effective relationships throughout the Firm and with outside contacts
Strong attention to detail, follow through, responsiveness and customer service skills
Strong command of the English language and legal and technical terminology
Excellent organization skills to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
Familiarity with basic computer applications (e.g. MS Word, Excel, etc.)
Operate standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers and fax machines
Ability to travel to private and public buildings, locally and statewide, via private or public conveyance to assist in attending to client needs on legal matters
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired during four years of high school
A minimum of a four-year bachelor’s degree is preferred
Previous experience of 4 or more years of litigation support experience in a law firm, corporation or e-discovery vendor
