To Our Investigations Team

 

CPA Ontario is currently in search of a Senior Investigator who will be responsible for carrying out investigations required for the Professional Conduct Committee (“PCC”) and as appointed by Counsel to the PCC.  In this role, you will be appointed to lead investigations or assist in investigations with other Investigators.  As a leader within the Enforcement group you will participate in and lead projects and initiatives.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Executing and take a lead role on investigations of complaints against members of the profession, including reviewing materials and developing investigative plans and budgets. Conduct interviews with witnesses and members in accordance with bylaws and regulations. Gather and manage evidence in a forensic context. Conduct complex investigations. Partner with and work in tandem with subject matter experts on larger, or specialized matters. Prepare reports and related evidentiary document briefs. Appear before the PCC to speak to the investigation report and answer queries. Provide litigation support to Counsel in drafting allegations and preparing for hearings. Appear as a witness before the Discipline Committee. 

Providing oversight and direction to other Investigators and Investigations Support staff to build investigative skillsets and provide guidance on items such as planning, issue identification and resolution, and interviewing and report writing as appropriate. 

Executing on and participating in projects, initiatives and other key matters within the department: Participate in internal meetings, contribute to training and resource materials. Develop and contribute to presentations, administrative matters, and participate in speaking engagements when applicable. 

Supervising, mentoring, and delegating work to the Coordinator and Investigation Specialists. 

Contributing to the continued update of training materials, participate in internal meetings geared towards strategy and planning as well as working on various projects. 

Participating in Investigator Training and PCC Orientation Training sessions.

Who You Are:

A CPA member in good standing with, at minimum, successful completion of at least one of: the Master of Forensic Accounting (MFAcc), DIFA (Diploma in Investigative & Forensic Accounting Program), or equivalent along with a minimum 10 years of experience in executing investigative files independently from the planning stage through to completion of a report, conducting interviews, preparing investigative reports, and providing expert testimony in a legal environment. You have an understanding of, and professional experience in public accounting, and the ability to apply professional accounting skills and an investigative mindset in every investigation.

A strong communicator (verbally and written) with excellent interpersonal, presentation, relationship building, and negotiating skills.

A demonstrated critical thinker and problem-solver with proven professional judgment and the ability to carry out investigative responsibilities with professionalism and due care.

Extremely organized with a proven ability to plan and multi-task, in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines.

Digitally fluent in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and e-discovery software tools.
