Primary or Senior Electronic Forensic Investigator Club Funded Role (two years fixed term) – Auckland
The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is a highly specialised government department whose mission is to disrupt and deter serious complex fraud through prevention, investigation, and prosecution. We take pride in the work we do to keep New Zealand safe from fraud and corruption.

About the role
The SFO seeks an experienced Electronic Forensic Investigator to join our Auckland CBD team. This is a club-funded role on a fixed-term basis for two years and is likely to be extended beyond the initial term, subject to ongoing funding and organisational requirements.
The primary purpose of this role is to provide dedicated electronic forensic capability and capacity to partner government agencies, enabling them to progress their investigations through access to specialist expertise, technology, and support. You will ensure the acquisition, preservation, analysis, and presentation of electronic data as evidence, be responsible for the efficient analysis of the evidence, and prepare and write comprehensive forensic examination reports. Working collaboratively, you will help strengthen and continuously improve the Electronic Forensic Unit’s hardware, software, and technical capability, ensuring the SFO remains aligned with international best practice. You will develop professional credibility through continuous improvement of skills and knowledge in the electronic forensic arena, enabling you to act as an expert witness in Court on the subject of electronic forensics.
This position will predominantly support Commerce Commission casework, while also working collaboratively across other Club-funded agencies, including FMA, INZ, Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and New Zealand Customs Service.
About you
We welcome individuals with diverse experiences and abilities. To be successful in this role you will have proven technical expertise in electronic forensic tools and methodology. You have in-depth knowledge of forensic, e-Discovery and SQLite tools such as: Cellebrite, Axiom, X-Ways, Forensic Explorer, Intella, Relativity, and others. Advanced skills in social media and cloud investigations, desktop, laptop, and mobile device forensic analysis are required. You will have problem solving and decision-making capabilities, including the ability to identify problems, manage or mitigate risks and implement innovative solutions that take immediate as well as longer term consequences into account. You will have experience of providing evidence in both the District Court and the High Court, and you will be comfortable engaging with external stakeholders.
You must be able to obtain and maintain any required Security Clearance, including Top Secret clearance.
