Team Overview:

We handle a full range of high-value, complex commercial disputes, including contentious banking and finance matters, insolvency litigation, contentious regulatory investigations, civil and criminal fraud claims and commercial arbitration.

The team specialises in challenging contractual, competition, boardroom and joint venture disputes and is increasingly known for its strategic and level-headed approach to parallel proceedings.  We advise on disputes of significant reputational and financial value and are known for our solutions-focused advice when the stakes are high.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced disputes paralegal to join our market leading UK Dispute Resolution practice, based in either our Bristol or London office.

The successful candidate will support both our Disputes & Investigations and Insurance & Construction teams and be exposed to a variety of disputes work.  

Tasks include:

  • Analysing, collating and summarising large quantities of information.
  • Researching points of law and other factual issues and preparing reports on the same.
  • Collating and organising bundles of documents for disclosure, witness statements or exhibits.
  • Providing general administrative support to fee-earners including proof reading.
  • Working with the Practice Support & eDiscovery team to organise and manage disclosure exercises, including document management and review.
  • Working on various stages of disclosure exercises including collating, organising and reviewing documents for relevance and privilege, flagging important documents to fee-earners, identifying legal issues, providing detailed case information/knowledge, preparing disclosure lists.
  • Court duties including filing payments and even applications before Practice Masters. These require knowledge of court workings and CPR rules and forms to assist with any queries about appropriate forms and how they should be filled, court fees, procedure, etc.

Person specification

Education / qualifications / experience:

  • Law graduate with a first or upper second class degree or equivalent.
  • Experienced paralegal with previous Litigation experience.
  • Experience using litigation support databases.

Knowledge and technical skills:

  • Excellent IT skills, including Outlook, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Previous legal database experience.

General Skills/Attributes:

  • Highly organised and methodical approach to the role as well as confidence with IT systems.
  • Attention to detail and the confidence to work independently.
  • Highly motivated and commercially astute.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collegiate, team-based attitude.
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, reliable and works well under pressure.
