The Paralegal is responsible for enhancing attorney effectiveness by assisting the Vice President and General Counsel with contract negotiation and drafting, contract tracking and management, processing agreements, and all other legal related matters for the Casino. This also includes maintaining and organizing files, conducting legal research, and drafting documents.
- Handles contract administration, including drafting and revising contracts for review, including nondisclosure agreements, client service agreements, business associate agreements, agency agreements, and similar documents.
- Utilizes contract management systems.
- Monitors and advises on contractual deadlines timely.
- Ensures that terms of contracts are in accordance with Company policies, applicable federal and state regulations and laws, business needs, and works to minimize the company’s risks and exposure.
- Assists with tracking and fulfilling terms of contracts, including renewal, termination, data and privacy requirements.
- Communicates and works with outside or carrier counsel as necessary.
- Provides assistance with litigation.
- Modifies or makes recommendations to improve Company procedures and processes.
- Researches and advises on special issues.
- Conducts legal and internet research as directed.
- Routes documents for signatures via DocuSign or its equivalent to internal and external stakeholders.
- Creates processes and workflows that ensure productivity and conformance to Company best practices.
- Administers the records retention policy.
- Collaborates with the Compliance, Cybersecurity, IT, and Operations Teams, along with leadership and stakeholders as necessary.
- Investigates the facts of a case under direct supervision of General Counsel.
- Drafts a variety of legal documents under supervision of General Counsel and a variety of general correspondence directed by executive management.
- Conducts research on relevant laws, regulations, and legal articles to assist with the preparation of reports, case files, and legal advice.
- Organizes and maintains documents in paper or electronic filing systems; organizes and tracks case files
- Gathers and arranges evidence and other legal documents for General Counsel review and case preparation.
- Writes reports to help lawyers prepare for trials.
- Drafts correspondence and legal documents, such as pleadings, contracts and instruments.
- Files exhibits, briefs, appeals and other legal documents with the court or opposing counsel.
- Provides general administrative assistance, such as maintaining the General Counsel’s calendar.
- Gathers and analyzes statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes, documents and other data.
- Calls on witnesses to testify at hearings.
- Proofreads and drafts demand letters.
- Notarizes and signs witnessing documents.
- Writes the closing letter and closes the files.
- Handles immediate deadlines and prioritizes appropriately.
- Works with safety as a priority and follows safety standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or paralegal certification required.
- 2 years of paralegal experience preferred.
- Experience using contract management software preferred, including identifying and inputting essential contract terms, generating reports and monitoring various contract metrics.
- Experience with data security and privacy laws and their relationship to non-disclosure agreements, vendor agreements, business associate agreements, client service agreements and agency agreements preferred.
- Experience reviewing, negotiating, and drafting contracts preferred.
- Experience responding to subpoenas, including interviewing custodians, data collection and production, and e-discovery.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Strong proofing skills, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
