The Manager, Information Governance - Systems & Training advances Simpson Thacher & Bartlett’s information governance (“IG”) strategy by implementing and optimizing technology solutions, driving user adoption, and leading firmwide IG change management. Reporting to the Director of Information Governance (Office of the General Counsel), this role ensures electronic records and systems are integrated, secure, and compliant with legal, regulatory, and professional standards.
Collaborating with OGC, IT, Knowledge Management, and other stakeholders, the Manager, Information Governance - Systems & Training oversees IG technologies across the data lifecycle—including eDiscovery, retention, disposition, and matter mobility. The role also supports enterprise compliance initiatives and develops engaging, accessible training for attorneys and professional staff.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Advise on IG technology, training, and communications to strengthen security, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Lead selection, implementation, and optimization of IG solutions, including records management, matter mobility, compliance, and eDiscovery tools.
Foster cross-functional collaboration to align IG initiatives with business goals and user needs.
Ensure seamless integration of IG technologies with firm-wide systems in partnership with IT, OGC, and Knowledge teams.
Create and deliver focused training and communications to promote awareness and compliance with IG best practices among attorneys and staff.
Contribute to the firm’s IG strategy and policy development.
Assist in enforcing and reviewing IG policies for secure, compliant electronic data management.
Oversee internal eDiscovery processes, with a focus on preservation efforts.
Support Practice Technology and Information Technology with eDiscovery collection, review and production.
Provide expertise across the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) lifecycle, including automating legal hold processes.

Skills and Experience
Required
Experience with IG technologies (e.g., enterprise content systems, eDiscovery, matter mobility tools)
Strong grasp of IG principles: data classification, retention, defensible disposition, and preservation
Proven ability to translate technical concepts into actionable change management for non-technical users
Familiarity with collaboration platforms in legal settings (e.g., Microsoft Teams, HighQ)
Experience with secure file transfer tools (e.g., ShareFile, Kiteworks, Dropbox)
Deep understanding of the EDRM lifecycle, including legal hold automation and preservation strategies
Prior experience preserving information using Microsoft Purview eDiscovery
Working knowledge of legal hold tools (e.g., Relativity, Encase, Exterro)
Experience with search term analysis and reporting
Understanding of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive data
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Skilled in resolving unexpected issues quickly and effectively
Self-starter with sound judgment, initiative, and discretion
Strong interpersonal skills; able to engage across all levels
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint (intermediate to advanced)
Preferred
5+ years of previous experience in a corporate legal department, law firm, or information governance consultant environment
Experience with legal technology integrations (e.g., document management systems, docketing, billing, matter management)
Experience leading organizational change initiatives, especially in legal or compliance environments
Salary Information
NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $160,000 to $190,000 at the time of posting.
The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
