The Champion Home Builders Litigation Associate manages and coordinates company efforts during all stages of litigation, including pre-suit demands and selecting, hiring, and overseeing outside counsel, provides advice and guidance to the various business units on the status of disputes, and makes recommendations for handling and resolution. You will attend mediations, arbitrations, and trial proceedings when required, and will participate in preparing witnesses for depositions and other testimony. This position is based in our Troy, Michigan headquarters and has flexible scheduling.


SUMMARY

The Litigation and Compliance Specialist is a critical member of the Champion legal department, reporting and working directly with the Deputy General Counsel. They will serve as a critical bridge between the company's operational branches (factories, growth channels) and the legal department.


Litigation & Disputes Support

  • Assist litigation attorneys with ensuring consistent communication to internal and external stakeholders relating to disputes.
  • Support attorneys and stakeholders, including monitoring deadlines and coordinating meetings.
  • Manage and organize relevant electronic and physical records, including pleadings, memoranda, and communications.
  • Support continuous improvements to comprehensive disputes and litigation processes.
  • Interact with outside counsel and relevant vendors on case management, discovery coordination, and matter administration (e.g., e-discovery vendors, law firms).
  • Track and manage invoices and budgets for relevant vendors (e.g., law firms, consultants, e-discovery) in legal billing software.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Coordinate coverage with insurance brokers and carriers, prepare insurance claim submissions, and maintain comprehensive claims tracking.
  • Manage insurance renewals and maintain the policies.

Other Administrative Duties

  • Manage other administrative duties, including processing mail, settlement checks, etc.

QUALIFICIATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or Paralegal certificate from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of litigation paralegal experience, including in-house.
  • Experience supporting risk management and managing insurance relationships, conducting legal research, and preparing for and managing all stages of disputes, litigation, claims notification, and policy renewals.
  • Strong knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and court rules.
  • Proficiency with legal research databases, Legal Tracker (Serengeti), and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, prioritize, manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment, and take on more work and develop additional skills.
  • Prior experience supporting compliance, governance, labor & employment, real estate, or data privacy matters.
