The Law Clerk I position is a great opportunity for an attorney to gain practical, hands-on experience applying your knowledge to assist with high profile cases being investigated and litigated by the Department of Justice. This opportunity with the Office of International Affairs will enhance your knowledge and understanding of criminal investigations and prosecutions worldwide, working with domestic partners and foreign counterparts to facilitate the cooperation necessary to enforce the law, advance public safety, and achieve justice. Responsibilities:

As a Law Clerk I, you will work as a part of a high-performing team where you will be able to hone your analytical and research skills by engaging in intensive document reviews to identify relevant documents and to conduct legal and factual research to build case. In addition:

  • Analyzing and providing legal analysis to ensure that the execution of extradition and mutual legal assistance requests are in compliance with the relevant treaty and United States law.

  • Analyzing documents received from foreign governments in criminal matters.

  • Assisting with inquiries from client agencies, including U.S. and foreign law enforcement officials on matters requiring Department action, consent, advice and opinion.

  • Communicating informally with U.S. Embassy personnel on case-related matters.

  • Tracking deadlines and assisting with prioritization of mutual legal assistance and extradition requests.

  • Working directly with the fi eld to prepare extradition and mutual legal assistance requests.

  • Preparing written instructions for the office executing the requests for attorney review.

  • Researching, drafting, and directing the preparation of correspondence, complaints, pleadings, briefs, and legal filings, as assigned and under the instruction of an attorney.

  • Being responsible for opening and closing cases in the OIA electronic case tracking system, and recording pertinent details concerning the execution of specific matters in OIA databases.


Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Requires Law degree, or currently at ending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study or, an equivalent level of legal training or experience.

  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.

  • Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and fi le management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging. Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.

Pay Range:

This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits provided for this position will meet or exceed the minimum required amounts detailed in the wage determination issued by the Department of Labor and made applicable to this position, as incorporated into CACI’s government contract for the work location.
 

Minimum Required Hourly Wage:

$38.77
