Job Description
The ideal candidate is a skilled attorney and a natural communicator with deep eDiscovery subject matter expertise who can lead a team of eDiscovery attorneys who work closely with teams throughout the firm to guide and advise on eDiscovery and Information Governance issues. As the Director, eDiscovery Attorney at Jackson Lewis reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, you will focus on the following tasks:
- Supervise and provide strategic guidance to a team of eDiscovery Attorneys overseeing a large portfolio of matters, managing workloads, work distribution, performance and quality control
- Work directly with the CTO on advancing new and existing initiatives for the eDiscovery Practice Group
- Guide the firm’s effort regarding eDiscovery best practices
- Coordinate strategy to expand firmwide utilization of the team by direct outreach, attorney training sessions and current development updates to firm attorneys and legal staff
- Work directly managing and consulting on large complex eDiscovery matters and advising clients on best practices on active litigations, investigations and regulatory matters
- Work with team leaders to coordinate training for new and junior members of the eDiscovery team on JL best practices and standard operating procedures
- Manage utilization eDiscovery review platforms including Relativity, Recommend and other analytics tools including TAR, predictive coding, and Early Case Assessment. Ensure firm stays ahead of new technologies & tools used for eDiscovery
- Advising legal, compliance and group investigation stakeholders on eDiscovery issues & strategies that comply with the relevant policies, laws and regulations arising in connection with litigation, internal investigations, and regulatory inquiries
- Working with eDiscovery processes and current & evolving eDiscovery technologies and the interrelation with other disciplines, including Information Governance, Data Protection, Data Security, IT, Compliance
- Identifying and escalating improvements to eDiscovery policies and procedures as necessary
- Serving as a subject matter expert on eDiscovery topics and coordinate the on-boarding and training of new and existing attorneys
- Implement custom workflows to reduce client costs and enhance speed-to-evidence for clients
- Create and refine standard documentation, including ESI protocols, Protective Orders, review protocols, training guides and review workflows
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team
- Create and manage SOPs (standard operating procedures) for discovery activities, defensible deletion programs, and cross-border data issues.
- Establish meaningful metrics, KPIs, and dashboards to measure team performance, cost containment, and strategic goals
Requirements:
- JD required
- Admission to the Bar (any state)
- 8+ years of progressive experience in eDiscovery, legal technology, or litigation support, including in 3+ years in a leadership role
- Deep expertise in the full EDRM spectrum and strong knowledge of applicable legal standards (e.g., FRCP, GDPR, CCPA).
- Hands-on experience with leading eDiscovery platforms (e.g., Relativity, Everlaw)
- Experience leveraging advanced analytics, TAR 2.0, and AI/ML solutions in document review
- Experience managing team of attorneys
- Strong understanding of current eDiscovery law and jurisprudence, eDiscovery processes and current & evolving eDiscovery technologies
- Demonstrated understanding of eDiscovery practices, including the relationship between eDiscovery and related disciplines (eCompliance, Records, Information Governance, IT, Data Privacy/Protection, Data Security)
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously from inception to completion and achieve goals
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify continuous improvements in policies and processes and execute on those improvements

For the New York area, the expected salary range for this position is between $185,000 and $230,000. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
