We are seeking an experienced Corporate Paralegal to support our Legal department. This role requires well‑developed analytical and decision‑making skills and the capability to work both independently and collaboratively with internal stakeholders, clients, and outside counsel. The Corporate Paralegal will play a key role in aligning our legal support practices with Sargent & Lundy’s risk profile and reflecting our core values in interactions with colleagues, clients, and outside counsel.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Claims and Litigation Holds:
    • Open and maintain matters in Legal Files; issue and track litigation holds; coordinate with IT, ECM, insurers, and outside counsel; support subpoena and discovery responses including coordinating searches with internal stakeholders and collaborating with outside counsel. 
  • Administer Legal Files System:
    • Maintain matter types and custom fields; run queries and saved searches; and coordinate system enhancements and troubleshooting with IT and vendors
  • Legal Data, Report.ing, and Metrics:
    • Export data from Legal Files and use tools such as Power BI to build reports for Legal leadership. Monitor Legal inbox.
  • Licensing, Registrations, and Regulatory Approvals:
    • Track, prepare, and submit applications for business registration, and engineering and contractor licenses; and communicate with licensing boards and other regulatory bodies. Track and manage entities using Treasury4/Entity4.
  • Export Controls and Regulatory Projects:
    • Assist with export controls and other regulatory projects in close coordination with attorneys and business stakeholders. Assist with domestic and international entity management, including maintaining corporate records.
  • Training, Onboarding, and Process Improvement:
    • Train and onboard new Legal staff on Legal tools, systems, and workflows; and contribute to Legal playbooks, templates, and process improvements.
  • Legal and Factual Research:
    • Conduct legal and factual research using LexisNexis and other tools; and prepare concise memoranda and summaries for attorney review.
  • Track litigation costs and submit to insurance carriers for reimbursement.
  • Special Projects:
    • Support special projects as assigned, demonstrating initiative and strong judgment on sensitive, confidential matters.

 

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with a mix of work spent in our downtown Chicago office and working remotely from home. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (business, insurance, law, or related field preferred); paralegal certificate a plus.
  • 5+ years of corporate paralegal experience, preferably in an in-house legal department, law firm, or combination; experience in engineering, construction, energy, infrastructure, or professional services firm is a plus.
  • Strong matter management, organizational, and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with attorneys, senior management, project teams, and outside counsel.
  • Experience managing highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Legal Files, and familiarity with tools such as Asana, Treasury4/Entity4, Power BI, e-discovery platforms, LexisNexis, and AI tools, or the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Experience supporting insurance claims, litigation, or export‑controlled/government‑funded projects is preferred.
  • Strong research and analytical skills and a proactive, team-oriented approach.

Compensation Range

$89,450.00 - $129,490.00
