This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting secure and scalable Microsoft 365 and enterprise identity solutions with a focus on email messaging, collaboration, and data protection. The position leads initiatives related to email security, identity and access management, and information governance, leveraging technologies such as Exchange Online, Purview, Teams, SharePoint, and Active Directory. The role also supports hybrid identity environments, advanced troubleshooting, and compliance-driven security strategies while collaborating with cross-functional teams across the organization.
Position Summary:The Technical Architect is an expert in an enterprise infrastructure role that partners with IT senior management to develop and lead the infrastructure vision and solutions for various technical infrastructure areas. As an individual contributor, the Technical Architect focuses on developing the infrastructure architecture strategy with long term, and broad impact on Mercury’s infrastructure direction. Partnering with other architects, system engineers, network engineers, software developers, software architects, and outside vendors, the Technical Architect provides leadership which has a big picture outlook considering cutting edge technology, performance results, cost, ease of maintenance, stability, and efficiency.

$118,664 to $230,619 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)
$107,876 to $209,653 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)
$97,089 to $188,688 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)
The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Documents the company’s existing systems architecture and technology portfolio and makes recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives. Develop, document, and communicate plans for investing in systems architecture, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities and/or technology enhancement opportunities. Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement. Develop and manage a systems capacity plan.
- Consults with and advise senior management to define infrastructure roadmap. Partners with initiative leaders, BRMs, infrastructure and application engineers to evaluate feasibility of and driving application development or software acquisition plans and direction. Factors business roadmap and ROI into technical vision to consider business impact of infrastructure and application designs.
- Designs, tests and debugs complex infrastructure solutions while developing new functionality, and enhancing existing functionality, providing leadership to guide customers and satisfy their requirements, both internal and external. Architecture and design work encompasses a broader project/platform scope. Work includes developing detailed specifications from which infrastructure solutions will be acquired or designed, tested and rolled out across the company.
- Actively researches new and alternate infrastructure technologies and emerging industry standards, driving changes to processes and methods for end user computing and server computing, and creates best practices. Documents large and complex assignments for knowledge transfer and develop expertise in multiple application and business areas.
- Mentors other IT team members on areas of expertise. Provides technical expertise and vision on a wide range of systems/projects/platforms.
- May lead other team members in an initiative or project with full responsibility for delivery and supervision of other team members.
- Partners with multiple third party vendors to investigate how infrastructure vendor solutions and services support Mercury’s IT needs, considering long term strategy, IT standards and policies, business value and ROI. Influence/determine vendor selection through the execution of Proof of Concept exercises, the development of RFPs, vendor sourcing and selection processes.

Qualifications
Education:
Minimum:
- BS degree in Computer Science or a related field; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Certification in Microsoft technologies, and/or VMWare preferred.
Experience:
Minimum
- Minimum 8 years of infrastructure design, implementation and management experience with direct involvement in infrastructure design, management of complex and multi-platform computing and networking environments in a mission critical, 7x24, ecommerce and SaaS environments.
Preferred:
- 10 or more years of experience designing and administering Microsoft 365 environments, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and Purview.
- 8 or more years of experience with email security platforms, particularly Proofpoint (PPS, TAP, Threat Response, SER, PSAT, EFD).
- Experience implementing email authentication protocols such as SPF, DKIM, and DMARC to enhance security and compliance.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, eDiscovery, Information Governance, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) strategies.
- Deep knowledge of Active Directory and hybrid identity environments, including AD DS, Entra ID (Azure AD), ADFS, SAML, and Single Sign-On (SSO).
- Experience implementing identity and access management (IAM) frameworks including privileged access management and least-privilege models.
- Familiarity with cloud backup, disaster recovery, and ransomware protection solutions.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex Microsoft 365 and hybrid infrastructure issues, including root cause analysis and escalation management.
- Experience supporting regulated environments with strong compliance and data security requirements.
- Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams including Information Security, SOC, Network Engineering, and DevOps.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor team members and support knowledge transfer initiatives.
- Experience providing VIP/executive-level technical support with a focus on service reliability and rapid issue resolution.
