Overview

Consilio is seeking a Senior Legal Engineer – AI Solutions & Workflows to help design the next generation of AI-enabled legal services and workflows across the organization.

This role will sit at the intersection of legal practice, generative AI, workflow design, data, and service delivery. The successful candidate will be a hands-on builder who understands how legal professionals work and can translate legal and business problems into practical AI-enabled workflows using platforms such as Claude, Harvey and other enterprise generative AI technologies, together with Consilio's proprietary technology and legal data capabilities.

The role will be central to Consilio's enterprise AI strategy, working across eDiscovery, investigations, legal operations, managed services, Lawyers on Demand, product, innovation and client teams. Depending on the experience and leadership capabilities of the successful candidate, the position may also evolve into broader leadership responsibility for Consilio's AI Solutions & Workflow function.

Responsibilities

  • Design AI-enabled legal workflows that combine generative AI, legal data, Consilio technology, third-party platforms, process design and human expertise to improve legal outcomes.
  • Serve as a hands-on legal engineer, developing prompts, agent instructions, workflows, prototypes and multi-step agentic processes using Claude, Harvey and similar enterprise AI platforms.
  • Work directly with lawyers, litigation teams, legal operations professionals and Consilio subject-matter experts to understand legal tasks and convert them into structured, repeatable AI workflows.
  • Design workflows that intelligently combine AI with human review and validation, including appropriate checkpoints, escalation criteria and quality controls.
  • Develop solutions that may span Consilio's proprietary AI capabilities, client-approved enterprise AI platforms, review technologies, APIs, MCP/connectors and other legal technology.
  • Prototype new approaches rapidly, test them against real legal use cases and determine whether they should become a repeatable service, product capability, connected solution or further innovation initiative.
  • Partner with Consilio Product and Technology teams to translate workflow requirements into product capabilities and integrations.
  • Partner with AI LegalWorks, Lawyers on Demand and delivery organizations to turn successful designs into scalable managed services and AI-enabled operating models.
  • Help establish reusable workflow patterns, agent architectures, prompt libraries, evaluation methods and implementation playbooks that can be applied across clients and matters.
  • Develop testing and validation frameworks to assess output quality, reliability, defensibility and appropriate human oversight before workflows are scaled.
  • Support selected client engagements, workshops and solution-design sessions, particularly where sophisticated AI workflow expertise is required.
  • Evaluate emerging AI models, platforms and agentic technologies based on their practical applicability to legal work rather than technology novelty alone.
  • Help educate Consilio teams on effective use of generative AI and how emerging capabilities can be applied to real legal workflows.
  • Contribute to broader decisions regarding when Consilio should build, connect, partner, operationalize or incubate an AI capability.

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate combines meaningful legal-domain understanding with unusual technical curiosity and hands-on experience using modern generative AI.

They should be comfortable moving between a conversation with a senior lawyer about an investigation or legal process and a working session designing the prompts, tools, data sources and agent steps required to improve that process.

Preferred Experience & Capabilities

  • Significant experience working within legal services, a law firm, corporate legal department, legal technology company, ALSP or legal innovation function.
  • Strong understanding of legal workflows, ideally including litigation, investigations, eDiscovery, legal operations, contract workflows or other high-volume legal processes.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with Claude, Harvey or comparable enterprise generative AI platforms.
  • Experience designing sophisticated prompts, reusable workflows, AI assistants, agents or multi-step generative-AI processes.
  • Understanding of agentic AI concepts, including tool use, workflow decomposition, retrieval, context management, structured outputs, human-in-the-loop controls and multi-step reasoning.
  • Ability to determine when a task is best handled through generative AI versus traditional search, analytics, deterministic automation or human legal judgment.
  • Familiarity with APIs, MCP, retrieval-augmented generation, enterprise data connections or similar integration concepts is strongly preferred; deep software-engineering expertise is not necessarily required.
  • Ability to prototype solutions independently and work effectively with engineers when production development is required.
  • Strong analytical and process-design skills with an ability to break complex legal work into discrete tasks, decision points and repeatable workflows.
  • Strong communication skills and credibility working with lawyers, technologists, business leaders and clients.
  • Practical orientation toward measurable outcomes, adoption and scalability, rather than experimentation for its own sake.

Particularly Valuable Backgrounds

We recognize that this capability may come from a variety of backgrounds. Strong candidates may include practicing or former attorneys who have become sophisticated AI builders, legal innovation or knowledge-management professionals, legal technologists, legal operations professionals, eDiscovery practitioners with strong generative-AI expertise, or technically oriented consultants who deeply understand legal workflows.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means moving Consilio from individual AI tools and isolated use cases toward repeatable AI-enabled legal workflows that can be delivered consistently across clients and business lines.

Within the first year, the successful candidate should help Consilio:

  • Establish a portfolio of validated AI-enabled workflow patterns.
  • Develop sophisticated agentic workflows around priority legal use cases.
  • Translate successful prototypes into scalable services and product requirements.
  • Increase the effective use of both Consilio and third-party AI technologies.
  • Reduce dependence on one-off expert intervention.
  • Demonstrate measurable improvements in speed, capacity, cost, quality or legal-team effectiveness.

Potential Role Evolution

The role should be structured as a senior hands-on legal engineering position first. For the right candidate, it could evolve into broader leadership responsibility for Consilio's AI Solutions & Workflow function as the program matures.
