About the Role
M365 Engineer will technical administration and operational support for the organization’s Microsoft 365 platform, including Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Teams, and Power Platform. This role will ensure the stability, security, and effective use of M365 collaboration and messaging services while supporting related dependencies such as Proofpoint email security and on-premises Exchange SMTP relay. The position will serve as a critical technical resource for day-to-day support, platform governance, troubleshooting, documentation, and future M365 enhancement or migration initiatives.

Position Summary: The M365 Engineer will be responsible for the administration, support, configuration, and continuous improvement of the organization’s Microsoft 365 environment. This role is accountable not only for ensuring reliable platform performance and service excellence but also for enforcing robust security, compliance, and data governance controls across all collaboration workloads. The position requires close partnership with global teams and offshore managed service providers to maintain operational integrity, uphold regulatory and organizational standards, and support secure, compliant collaboration at scale. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, and a commitment to advancing productivity while safeguarding the organization’s information assets.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end operations of the Microsoft 365 platform, ensuring high availability, performance, and security of collaboration services.
- Serve as the technical authority for M365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, and related compliance and security capabilities.
- Manage and optimize relationships with offshore managed service providers, ensuring SLAs, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives are met.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Security, Compliance, Infrastructure, End User Services) to align M365 services with enterprise standards and business needs.
- Drive platform governance, lifecycle management, and roadmap planning in alignment with enterprise collaboration strategy.
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and problem management for M365-related issues.
- Provide technical leadership in M365 migrations, integrations, and automation initiatives.
- Stay current with Microsoft’s roadmap and industry trends to proactively recommend enhancements and innovations.
- Support SMTP relay solutions to include Exchange on premise and Proofpoint Secure email relay
- Drive platform governance, threat protection policies and ensuring alignment between on premise and Proofpoint’s cloud messaging architecture.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Power Platform, and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
- Strong understanding of M365 security, compliance, and governance capabilities (e.g., DLP, eDiscovery, retention policies).
- Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, and Power Platform experience is a plus.
- Proofpoint SER, EFD, TAP, TRAP, DLP and Email gateway
- Proven experience collaborating with offshore teams and third-party service providers.
- Familiarity with ITIL practices and service management tools (e.g., ServiceNow).
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business value.
- Experience with scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Graph API).
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence without authority.
- Lead the integration of M365 services during mergers and acquisitions, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with existing systems and processes.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in IT, with at least 7 years in Microsoft 365 platform.
- Microsoft certifications are highly desirable.
Preferred Skills:
- Change management and user adoption strategies.
- Agile and DevOps methodologies.
- Experience with hybrid environments and cloud migrations.
- Familiarity with identity and access management (Azure AD, Conditional Access).
