Sr Investigator

The Senior Corporate Investigator is responsible for planning and conducting complex internal investigations across the organization's operations in China and the broader Asia-Pacific region. This position reports to the Global Head of Investigations and requires a seasoned professional capable of independently managing all phases of an investigation, from initial assessment through final reporting, including witness interviews, evidence collection, and the pursuit of logical investigative steps to reach well-supported conclusions. The role will also be expected to assist with preparing and explaining aggregated investigative data metrics to stakeholders. The individual must operate effectively in both English and Mandarin and navigate the legal, regulatory, and cultural landscape of mainland China.

Key Responsibilities

Investigative Planning & Execution

• Design and execute comprehensive investigative plans based on initial allegations, referrals, or compliance concerns, identifying key lines of inquiry and prioritizing investigative steps.
• Pursue logical, evidence-based investigative steps to uncover facts, identify root causes, and determine the scope and impact of alleged misconduct.
• Adapt investigative strategies as new information emerges, exercising sound professional judgment throughout.

Interviews & Witness Management

• Conduct structured, effective interviews of witnesses, subjects, and persons of interest in both English and Mandarin, ensuring thoroughness, fairness, and legal compliance.
• Prepare detailed interview plans, including topic outlines, question sequences, and document exhibits.
• Document interviews accurately through contemporaneous notes and written summaries.

Evidence Collection & Preservation

• Identify, collect, and preserve physical, documentary, and electronic evidence in accordance with applicable legal requirements and internal protocols.
• Maintain rigorous chain-of-custody documentation to ensure the integrity and admissibility of evidence.
• Coordinate with IT, legal, and third-party forensic specialists as needed for digital evidence collection and analysis.

Analysis & Reporting

• Analyze collected evidence to identify patterns, connections, and conclusions supported by the factual record.
• Prepare clear, concise, and well-organized investigative reports and upload into the corporate case management system.
• Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders in both written and oral formats.
• Prepare and explain investigative data metrics and insights to stakeholders.

Compliance & Coordination

• Ensure all investigative activities comply with applicable Chinese laws and regulations, including data privacy and labor laws, as well as company policies and international standards.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders, including Legal, Compliance, Human Resources, and Internal Audit, to coordinate investigative efforts and remediation activities.
• Support external counsel and regulatory bodies as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in law, criminal justice, accounting, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in corporate investigations, law enforcement, regulatory enforcement, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience conducting witness interviews and managing complex, multi-faceted investigations.
• Proven ability to collect, handle, and analyze both physical and digital evidence.
• Professional fluency in English and Mandarin (written and spoken) is required.
• Strong knowledge of Chinese legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to corporate investigations, including data protection, anti-corruption, and labor law.
• Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and exercise discretion with sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional certification such as CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), CPA, or equivalent.
• Prior experience working with multinational corporations or international law firms in China.
• Familiarity with e-discovery tools and digital forensic methodologies.
• Experience interacting with Chinese regulatory and law enforcement authorities.
