The Opportunity:


This Senior Paralegal position is located in the Housing and Civil Enforcement Section (HCE), Civil Rights Division, U.S. Department of Justice. The Civil Rights Division is primarily responsible for enforcing federal statutes, regulations, and executive orders that prohibit unlawful discrimination in voting, education, employment, housing, police services, public accommodations and commercial facilities, and federally funded and conducted programs.


Responsibilities:

  • Performs case preparation and evaluation, legal and factual research, drafting of legal documents, trial preparation, witness interviews, and other related paralegal functions.
  • Proofreads, drafts, and revises documents; reads and analyzes voluminous, complex materials to summarize and highlight relevant content.
  • Prepares for and assists attorneys during telephone calls, meetings, depositions, trials, and court hearings.
  • Travels as needed, arranges associated travel logistics, and may drive to meetings using a government-furnished vehicle when public transportation is not readily available.
  • Manages the logistical aspects of trials, hearings, and depositions.
  • Contacts and interviews potential witnesses to gather information and assists with preparing witnesses for court appearances and depositions.
  • Assists attorneys during depositions, trials, hearings, and other court proceedings, including managing exhibits and courtroom presentation technology.
  • Conducts legal research of defined scope and complexity, referencing and citing applicable sources, precedents, transcripts, legislative history, and other relevant materials.
  • Identifies inconsistencies in text, including Bluebooking legal citations, and plans layout elements such as spacing and indentation of charts and tables.
  • Handles sensitive witnesses and information with discretion and maintains confidentiality in the performance of duties.
     


Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted.
  • At least 2 years of litigation paralegal experience, including 1 year of experience in automated litigation support.
  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems, e.g., Relativity, Excel, JEFS/Box.com, Word, Zoom, Teams, Power Point, and social media tools
  • Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.
  • Advanced skills with Excel.
  • Professional, can-do, customer-service attitude.
  • Ability to travel is a must.
  • DOJ MBI must be obtainable (US citizenship required)


Desired:

  • Spanish Language skills preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with cite checking/Bluebooking
  • Trial experience

Pay Range:

This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits provided for this position will meet or exceed the minimum required amounts detailed in the wage determination issued by the Department of Labor and made applicable to this position, as incorporated into CACI’s government contract for the work location.
 

Minimum Required Hourly Wage:

$31.69
