The Sr. Manager, CAO & Legal Operations supports the Legal team by creating and managing organizational and operational processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness. This role oversees key operational areas including process improvement, the legal control environment, contract management, legal billing, and budgeting. This role also oversees key strategic initiatives that help Energizer’s legal and related teams build capacity, manage risk and integrate the use of tools to help us deliver excellence and value to the organization. The position requires a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and project management skills who can drive improvements across systems, tools, and ways of working.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, share best practices, develop playbooks, and train the legal team to improve efficiency
Stay current on legal operations industry trends and advise on upgrades to business processes and tools
Assist in designing, implementing, and monitoring controls relevant to the Legal Department’s control environment
Define roles, responsibilities, accountabilities, and timelines for projects; coordinate cross-functional teams
Develop and implement metrics, reporting, and benchmarking through data analytics to measure legal team performance
Manage the legal department budget, including planning cycles aligned with company timelines
Supervise legal vendor management, including law firm rates, alternative and fixed fee arrangements, and billing compliance
Manage the Legal tracker legal billing process.
Facilitate contract management technology
Oversee cost-effective litigation support and enterprise-wide e-discovery processes and policies
Support internal resource management activities including recruiting, onboarding, training, work allocation, and performance management
Create and maintain knowledge management processes to capture and reuse legal work product and institutional knowledge
Lead change management initiatives related to technology and process improvements within the Legal function
Oversee all legal solutions and tools (document management, matter management, e-billing, IP systems, e-discovery, etc.)
Manage and develop legal department procedures
Manage a team of one legal operations professional
At least 5 years of experience in an in-house legal department or law firm
Bachelor’s degree required
Experience researching, calibrating and implementing AI tools to improve resource efficiency preferred
Strong experience with legal department systems and technologies, including contract and knowledge management tools
Direct experience working with law firm management and billing systems
Strong understanding of how law departments deliver and manage legal services
Experience with budgeting and expense management
Advanced organizational, planning, and time management skills
Strong communication and presentation skills
Experience collaborating across diverse stakeholder groups to drive process and behavioural change
Excellent interpersonal skills
Management experience preferred
