Description

Hinman, Howard & Kattell, LLP is seeking a Paralegal / Library Manager. This position is responsible for providing skilled paralegal support to attorneys and overseeing the organization, maintenance, and accessibility of the firm’s legal library and research resources. This position requires strong legal research skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage both digital and physical legal information systems to support the firm’s practice areas. This position is full time (37.5 hours per week) with benefits.


Key Responsibilities

Paralegal Duties

  • Draft, proofread, and format legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings under attorney direction.
     
  • Conduct legal research and cite-check case law, statutes, and administrative regulations.
     
  • Maintain and organize case files, discovery materials, and exhibits in both electronic and paper formats.
     
  • Understand, conduct and train as needed for e-filing in state and federal courts. Ensure compliance with filing deadlines and procedural requirements.
     
  • Communicate with court personnel, clients, and opposing counsel as directed by attorneys.
     
  • Assist attorneys with e-discovery case requirements including documenting procedures, working with clients and attorneys to ensure proper and timely electronic discovery benchmarks and time lines, coordinate with attorneys, clients, internal technical support personnel, e-discovery software vendors and other legal staff for extraction and analysis of electronic discovery materials.
     

Library Management Duties

  • Maintain and update the firm’s legal research library, including subscriptions to online databases (e.g., LexisNexis) and printed materials.
     
  • Track and manage library budget, renewals, and vendor contracts.
     
  • Develop and implement systems for cataloging and indexing reference materials.
     
  • Research and recommend new legal information tools and technologies.
     
  • Train attorneys and staff on the use of legal research platforms and library resources.
     
  • Serve as the primary liaison with library vendors and external research services.
     

Requirements

 

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree required; Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred.  
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a paralegal, with at least 2 years managing legal resources or library systems preferred.  
  • Strong legal research skills and familiarity with legal databases and citation formats.  
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking abilities.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems.  
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional office environment.
