Job Description:
Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Microsoft Purview Engineer with deep expertise in communication compliance, eDiscovery, data lifecycle management, DLP, and PowerShell automation, as well as emerging data security posture management (DSPM) for AI. This role is critical to strengthening our compliance posture, ensuring responsible data handling, and enabling secure adoption of AI across the enterprise.
You will serve as a subject-matter expert for Purview’s compliance and data security capabilities, driving policy design, operational governance, and automation across Microsoft 365 and Azure environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Communication Compliance & Risk Management
• Design, configure, and optimize Communication Compliance policies to detect inappropriate, risky, or regulated communications across Microsoft 365.
• Tune classifiers, thresholds, and review workflows to improve detection accuracy and reduce noise.
• Partner with HR, Legal, and Security teams to operationalize review processes and ensure timely case handling.
• Investigate escalations and provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
eDiscovery & Audit Readiness:
• Administer Purview eDiscovery (Standard & Premium) including holds, collections, review sets, analytics, and exports.
• Build defensible workflows for legal, regulatory, and internal investigations.
• Optimize KQL queries and review strategies to improve search accuracy and reduce processing time.
• Support audit requests with reports, logs, and evidence packages.
Data Lifecycle Management & Records Governance:
• Implement and maintain retention labels, retention policies, auto-labeling, and records management configurations.
• Develop lifecycle strategies for structured and unstructured data across Microsoft 365 workloads.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, FINRA, ISO, etc.).
• Monitor policy effectiveness and adjust configurations based on business and regulatory changes.
Data Loss Prevention (DLP):
• Configure and manage Microsoft Purview DLP policies across Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, endpoints, and cloud apps.
• Develop and tune sensitive information types, trainable classifiers, and policy exceptions.
• Monitor DLP alerts
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
University or post-graduate degree
Strong academic background (e.g., computer science, engineering)
7 + years relevant experience
MS 365 Purview/ MS Purview certification
