Job Summary:

The Microsoft Purview & AI Data Security Architect is primarily responsible for leading client advisory engagements and service delivery. Statements of Work achieve client outcomes that provide data protection, reduce compliance risk, and enable the responsible adoption of cloud and artificial intelligence technologies. This role requires outstanding client-facing relationship and customer management skills while simultaneously possessing current subject matter expertise in solution stacks within Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps, Entra ID, Defender, and related Microsoft security technologies.

The Architect supports presales and leads scoping, discovery, design, implementation, and enablement activities through timeline of engagement. Current deliveries in this service line include AI data governance, information protection, data loss prevention, data security posture management, insider risk, adaptive protection, data lifecycle management, eDiscovery, and communication compliance.

This role works with client executives, CISO / Security Director roles, and Governance Risk and Compliance stakeholders to deliver measurable business outcomes on time and within budget. Exemplary sales skills, soft skills, and client-focused communication skills will be required of any candidate. The Architect also contributes to internal solution development, quality reviews, customer pursuits, team mentoring, and the growth of BDO's AI & Data Governance, Security, and Compliance offerings.
 

Job Duties:

Client Advisory and Solution Architecture:

  • Supports presales pursuits as a valued member of a collective sales culture
  • Conducts discovery to understand client objectives, data risks, regulatory obligations, and governance maturity
  • Delivers practical roadmaps, governance frameworks, policies, controls, and remediation plans
  • Translates governance, privacy, security, and compliance requirements into scalable Microsoft solutions
  • Advises client leaders on reducing data risk, improving readiness, and adopting AI securely

Microsoft Data Governance, Security, and Compliance Delivery:

  • Architects Microsoft Purview solutions spanning governance, data protection, DLP, DSPM, insider risk, lifecycle, eDiscovery, and meeting compliance requirements
  • Designs classification, labeling, information protection, DLP, IRM adaptive protection, monitoring, and evidence-reporting controls
  • Architects structured data governance solutions, establishes catalog and technical domains, ownership, stewardship, metadata, data products, lineage, and access workflows
  • Implements security and data security controls across Microsoft 365, identity and access management, Defender XDR, endpoints, cloud applications, approved AI use cases, Copilot, and Microsoft Purview
  • Aligns solutions to applicable regulatory and industry frameworks
  • Produces clear, quality-reviewed designs, presentations, runbooks, training, and executive deliverables that build trust, enable confidence, and sustain relationships while achieving client target outcomes

Leadership and Practice Contribution:

  • Leads delivery teams, protects delivery quality, resolves risks, and owns client and BDO stakeholder communications
  • Coaches our consultants, shares knowledge, and develops repeatable frameworks, methods, and service offerings
  • Supports pursuits through scoping, estimates, solution design, presentations, and statements of work
  • Maintains and socializes current knowledge of Microsoft capability, data protection best practice, frameworks and regulations, and AI governance within our community
  • Takes ownership of the performance of additional supportive duties required of the service line and of the BDO Cyber Practice
  • Travels to client sites as needed for engagement, relationship, and opportunity pursuit purposes
  • Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Coaches team and leads internal project teams in company workstreams as needed
  • Manages professional development of team
  • Leads performance evaluations of direct reports

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED, required
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Data Management, preferred

Experience:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in cybersecurity, data governance, data protection, compliance, information management with a significant emphasis in Microsoft cloud, security and AI workforce solutions, required
  • Three (3) or more years of experience designing, implementing or architecting cyber security data protection, information protection, data loss prevention, or related security and compliance capabilities, required
  • Two (2) or more years of experience leading technical discovery, architecture, implementation, assessment, or governance workstreams, required
  • Two (2) or more years of professional consulting in client-facing advisory, preferred
  • Experience supporting clients functioning in regulated industry verticals and translating governance, privacy, legal, or compliance requirements into technical controls for these customers, preferred

Software:

Three (3) or more of the following Microsoft Purview experience, required:

  • Information Protection
  • Data Loss Prevention
  • Data Security Posture Management (DSPM for AI)
  • Data Governance to include Data Map and Unified Catalog
  • Insider Risk Management
  • Data Lifecycle Management, Records Management
  • eDiscovery 

The following Microsoft technologies, preferred:

  • Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps
  • Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, or related Microsoft security technologies

Certifications:

One (1) or more of the following, preferred:

  • Microsoft Certified: Information Security Administrator Associate 
  • Microsoft Certified: Microsoft Security Operations Analyst
  • Microsoft Certified: Microsoft 365 Certified: Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals
  • Microsoft Certified: Microsoft 365 and AI Services Administrator Associate

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong consultative presence with ability to build rapport, trust, resolve blockers, and provide positive resolution in client relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to verbalize complex governance, security, compliance, and technology concepts to executive and technical audiences
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams providing service excellence to customers and business stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, appropriately escalate issues, and respond professionally to unexpected problems
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, requirements gathering, documentation, and presentation skills
  • Ability to assess enterprise level governance maturity, identify corporate risk, remediate, gaps, and develop roadmaps and recommendations aligned to customer value
  • Strong and current knowledge of solution architecture, business process analysis, and controls

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $105,000 - $215,000
Maryland Range: $105,000 - $215,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $105,000 - $215,000
