The City of Beaumont is looking for an experienced and forward-thinking M365 Security & Compliance Specialist to join our Communications & Information Technology Services (COMITS) department. We are seeking a knowledgeable and forward-thinking M365 Security & Compliance Specialist to lead the design, implementation, and governance of Microsoft 365 security, identity, and compliance capabilities. This role plays a key part in protecting corporate information, enabling secure collaboration, and ensuring alignment with regulatory and organizational requirements.
 
As a M365 Security & Compliance Specialist, reporting to the Manager, Information and Technology, you will play a key role in providing strategic direction, oversight, and support for corporate technology initiatives. The role will help ensure the Cit’s M365 platform is secure, compliant and aligned within organizational goals.  You will be trusted to take the lead, bring your ideas to the table, and help shape the work in a place that values strategy, heart, and compliance for the city of Beaumont.
 
What YOU’RE Responsible for:
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining Microsoft 365 security, identity, and compliance controls to protect corporate data.
  • Administering Conditional Access, MFA, SSO, PIM, and user lifecycle management aligned with Zero Trust principles.
  • Leading the configuration and governance of Microsoft Purview tools, including DLP, sensitivity labels, retention, eDiscovery, and auditing.
  • Developing and enforcing data protection, access governance, and compliance policies that meet regulatory and records management requirements.
  • Establishing governance for secure file sharing, guest access, and external collaboration across M365 applications.
  • Monitoring the Microsoft 365 environment’s health, performance, and security posture, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Providing subject matter expertise and technical guidance to internal departments, project teams, and leadership.
  • Collaborating with Records Management, Legal, and Information Systems to align M365 settings with corporate policies and legislation.
  • Preparing recommendations, documentation, and risk assessments, and escalating high-impact changes to the appropriate channels.
  • Supporting organizational projects, promoting health and safety standards, and performing other duties as assigned.

What YOU Bring:
  • Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience administering Microsoft 365 or Azure with a focus on security, identity, or compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with Conditional Access, MFA, SSO, PIM, and user lifecycle management.
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview (DLP, sensitivity labels, retention, eDiscovery, audit).
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust principles, data governance, and secure collaboration practices.
  • Experience with Intune or PowerShell is an asset.
  • Microsoft security or compliance certifications (SC-300, SC-400, MS-102, etc.) are strong assets.
