M365 Engineer
Location: London/Hybrid
Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract: Permanent - Salaried
The Microsoft 365 Engineer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimising the organisation’s Microsoft 365 environment to ensure a seamless and productive digital experience for all employees. This role oversees the full M365 ecosystem—including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Office365 and the Power Platform—ensuring that services are secure, reliable, and aligned with best-practice governance. Working closely with the wider technical and security teams, the engineer ensures that our Microsoft365 environment remains compliant, resilient, and continually improved.
Responsibilities:
Administration & Maintenance
- Manage and optimise the Microsoft 365 environment, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Office 365 and Power Platform.
- Perform configuration, updates, patching, capacity management and service‑health monitoring.
- Administer licensing, roles and permissions to support business needs.
- Test and implement platform changes and new features with minimal user impact.
Security & Compliance
- Maintain M365 security controls, compliance policies and retention schedules.
- Monitor and respond to alerts, incidents and vulnerabilities.
- Manage eDiscovery and regulatory compliance activities.
- Ensure Power Platform environments follow governance and security frameworks.
Support & Troubleshooting
- Act as an escalation point for complex M365 incidents.
- Collaborate with Service Desk teams to improve processes and reduce recurring issues.
- Maintain documentation, guides and knowledge articles.
- Analyse logs and telemetry to proactively resolve issues.
- Support citizen developers in creating secure, scalable automations.
Adoption & Optimisation
- Promote effective use of M365 tools to improve productivity and simplify workflows.
- Contribute to best‑practice guidance, training and user‑friendly materials.
- Use analytics and feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Demonstrable experience managing and maintaining large-scale Microsoft 365 environments, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Office365.
- Hands-on experience with Power Platform administration (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI), including governance, environment management, and security controls.
- Experience implementing and maintaining M365 security and compliance controls such as DLP, retention policies, eDiscovery, Microsoft Defender, and Purview.
- Proficiency in scripting for automation, reporting and configuration tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Familiarity with ITIL service management practices, incident management, change control, and structured support processes.
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert (or equivalent experience).
- ITIL Foundation certification (desirable).
