The Business Litigation Paralegal will work in our Charlotte office supporting the Business Litigation and Employment & Benefits practice groups. This is a non-exempt administrative position that reports to the Office Administrator and assigned attorneys. There are no direct reports to this position.
The Paralegal will work a regular schedule as determined by the Office Administrator and/or assigned attorneys. The typical schedule will consist of 7.5 hours per day, equating to 37.5 hours per week. Additional hours (including overtime) will be required on occasion.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Draft correspondence, pleadings, discovery requests and responses, and employment-related filings.
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, court personnel, and experts in connection with litigation and employment matters.
- Review and summarize depositions, personnel files, and other discovery materials.
- Assist with trial preparation and support attorneys during trial by managing electronic presentations/databases, coordinating witnesses, and organizing exhibits.
- Manage electronic databases associated with e-discovery and employment records.
- Assist with document productions in litigation and regulatory matters.
- Conduct internet and legal research on business and employment law issues.
- Cite check and shepardize briefs and memoranda.
- Prepare and manage electronic court filings in both federal and state courts.
- All other tasks as assigned by leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 3 – 5 years of litigation experience, preferably in business litigation and/or employment law, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience using a legal time and billing system.
- Large case management and trial experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with eDiscovery software is preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with trial presentation software is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and accommodate urgent requests.
- Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Team-oriented, willing to assist colleagues during peak workload periods.
- Proficiency in federal and state electronic filing systems.
