Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Transportation’s (NDOT) Communications Division is offering an opportunity for a law student interested in furthering their knowledge and experience in public records administration.

Job Duties:

The selected candidate will focus primarily on the intake, processing, and coordination of public records requests under the Nebraska Public Records Act. This individual will work closely with NDOT's communications and legal teams to review responsive documents using an e-discovery platform. In addition to primary public records responsibilities, the selected individual may gain experience researching, assisting with policy reviews, and supporting other Communications Division and legal needs.  


 

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Must be a three-fourths time student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A first-year or second-year law student with an interest in public law, administrative practice, or government
  • Ability to work at least 15 hours per week.  Temporary, full-time work may be available during breaks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro or document management systems.
