The Role:
The Legal Business Partner will provide administrative and case-specific support to Moderna’s IP Litigation (IPL) team in connection with U.S. and other complex legal matters. This role works closely with the IP Litigation team, and partners with internal stakeholders, outside counsel, and e-discovery vendors to support discovery, document management, budgeting processes, expert workflows, and IPL operational initiatives, including AI-enabled process improvements.
Here's What You'll Do:
Support day-to-day legal activities across active matters and coordinate case support needs with the IP Litigation team, internal stakeholders, and outside counsel.
Assist with custodian interviews and coordinate collection of relevant custodian and non-custodial data sources.
Assist with drafting, dissemination, and administration of legal holds and other preservation processes as needed; track acknowledgements and follow-ups in accordance with internal procedures.
Maintain legal calendars and internal deadline tracking; monitor key case milestones (e.g., discovery deadlines, depositions, hearings) and support related reporting as needed.
Organize and assist with gathering case documents and information to support legal needs (e.g., discovery response support, internal fact development, expert tracking and conflict checks).
Assist with running internal conflict checks on potential case experts and coordinating with external counsel to ensure accurate reporting
Upload, code, and track case-specific documents in databases such as Relativity, including maintaining organization, tags/coding, and supporting reporting needs.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders and e-discovery vendor regarding data collections, processing, hosting, review support, and quality control measures.
Work with the team and e-discovery vendor to assist with document reviews as needed.
Support the development and continuous improvement of document reuse systems and related repositories to enable repeatable, efficient workflows across matters.
Maintain matter workspaces and internal repositories (including SharePoint matter sites and case files), ensuring documents are complete, current, and organized for team access.
Support new matter intake and set-up, including opening new matters, coordinating external counsel and vendor onboarding and preparing and maintaining files for same.
Support budgeting and billing processes, including coordinating case-specific budget updates with outside counsel when needed, updating monthly budgets/spend tracking, and working with the billing group to route and approve invoices for review and resolve invoice questions.
Support development and implementation of administrative and case-specific IP legal processes
Participate in AI-related initiatives to improve legal support workflows, including use of approved AI tools and/or GPT-enabled support where appropriate.
Here's What You'll Need (Basic Qualifications):
University degree required
3–5 years of legal experience (in-house or at a law firm), preferably supporting large, cross-border legal matters.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders, outside counsel, and vendors.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Willingness to collaborate, take initiative, and follow through consistently in a team environment.
Proficiency in English (verbal and/or written) required due to global collaboration needs.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications):
Prior e-discovery experience in large, cross-border legal matters; prior experience managing or assisting with complex document reviews is a plus.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suites; familiarity with Microsoft Lists is a plus; SharePoint experience preferred.
Prior use of AI tools and/or experience developing GPTs or implementing AI-enabled workflows in a legal setting is a plus.
