What do we need?
We are seeking an Intellectual Property (IP) Litigation Paralegal to join our Trial & Appellate (Litigation) Practice Group. This role is responsible for all phases of the litigation process at the International Trade Commission (ITC) including case preparation, document review, and trial preparation. This is an ideal role for a detail-oriented Litigation Paralegal who thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can manage multiple priorities. The position requires a strong foundation in IP litigation and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with attorneys and other paralegals. This position is hybrid from the D.C. area with in-office presence as needed. We would expect travel to trial locations, depending on trial schedules.
How will you make an impact?
- Providing litigation and trial support to the Trial & Appellate Practice Group particularly at the ITC.
- Creating, organizing, reviewing, and maintaining litigation case files.
- Monitoring litigation dockets and due dates and managing litigation calendars using CompuLaw.
- Compiling, assisting with, and preparing court filings, including proofreading and cite-checking motions, briefs, and memoranda; assembling exhibits and appendices for filings at the ITC.
- Maintaining a working knowledge of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) and Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure (FRAP).
- Maintaining proficiency with electronic filing systems, including CM/ECF, NextGen, and USITC EDIS.
- Performing factual and legal research using databases such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, Docket Navigator, PACER, EDIS, and the USPTO.
- Conducting searches on production databases for relevant documents using IPRO, Relativity, and other document management software.
- Proactively managing all phases of fact and expert discovery.
- Preparing materials for depositions, hearings, trials, and arbitrations.
- Attending and providing on-site support to attorneys at court and agency proceedings.
- Mentoring junior paralegals as needed.
- Assisting with special projects and other litigation-related assignments.
- Performing additional responsibilities as assigned.
What will you bring to the role?
- Minimum 5 years of paralegal experience required, including litigation at the ITC.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Paralegal certificate preferred.
- Bluebook proficiency.
- Knowledge and understanding of the litigation process and e-discovery; experience with database management software, review, and production.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat; CompuLaw; Case Notebook; Relativity;
- Willingness to support matters at any level.
- Possess strong communication skills.
- Capable of “managing up,” flexible to respond quickly to shifting demands, ability to work under time constraints, handle multiple detailed tasks simultaneously, and prioritize appropriately.
- Must be a team player.
- Must deliver high-quality work product and work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to handle sensitive, confidential business information with the utmost discretion.
- Must be flexible to work overtime on an as-needed basis.
- Must be willing to attend trial out of state, as needed.
The good faith base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $95,000 per year. The actual salary rate offered to candidates within that range will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, years of relevant experience, education, and the candidate’s overall qualifications for the position as assessed by the Firm.
