Vedder is seeking an Information Governance Strategist to sit in our Chicago, New York, or San Francisco office (with the potential to sit in another Vedder office if interested). The Information Governance Strategist serves as a subject matter expert and internal consultant for information governance within the Firm and participates in the strategic evaluation and implementation of IT systems in order to support the compliance and risk management objectives of the Firm.
As the Information Governance Strategist, your job duties will include but not be limited to:
- Develop policies, standards and procedures in consultation with the Director of Legal Information Governance that support the Firm’s overall information governance, privacy, and security objectives
- Improve or develop new or existing department procedures and training plans in consultation with the Director of Legal Information Governance and the Manager of Records and Information Compliance
- Evaluate, recommend and coordinate the implementation of new technology to support the information governance and risk management objectives of the Firm
- Lead the information governance assessment of existing Firm systems to ensure compliance with Firm policy and department standards
- Create and lead training and awareness programs, including presentations and communication plans, that promote the understanding of information governance best practices
- Consult with Firm personnel on the proper management of Firm and client information in compliance with client, professional and legal requirements
- Manage and lead special projects as assigned by the Director of Legal Information Governance
Skills & Competencies:
- Experience developing and executing tactical and strategic projects within a law firm’s risk management, information governance or information technology department
- Experience leading intra- and inter-department software, system and process evaluations within a law firm, and presenting findings and recommendations to management and internal stakeholders
- Experience working and collaborating with other departments within a law firm, including the Office of the General Counsel, Information Technology, eDiscovery, Human Resources, Accounting, Risk Management and Information Security
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience presenting to internal stakeholders and consulting with personnel at all levels of a law firm
- Experience using project management methodologies to effectively manage and complete multiple projects with strict deadlines
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to research, analyze, manage, and report on processes and projects in a detailed and orderly manner
- Ability to travel in connection with training and system evaluations
Qualifications & Required Experience:
- 10+ years information governance and/or information technology experience within a law firm
- Demonstrated experience with information governance technology, eDiscovery technology, matter management technology, time and billing systems, document management systems, electronic messaging systems, multifunction devices
- Demonstrated leadership and project management experience
Compensation Range: $95,000/yr. to $120,000/yr.
