Forensic Security Engineer II, ITI Forensics

Amazon
Full-time
Remote friendly (Annapolis Junction, Maryland, United States)
United States
$159,300 - $202,400 USD yearly
AWS Security is seeking a motivated Security Engineer with demonstrated expertise in digital forensic investigations. A qualified engineer will have a robust knowledge of digital forensics and incident response (DFIR) processes and techniques, and should have a broad and deep technical knowledge, specifically in the fields of forensics, network security, and security intelligence. Candidates are also expected to assist in the design and implementation of innovative and scalable forensic tools and solutions, mostly written in Python and AWS CDK. Our team strives to invent new ways to tackle forensic acquisitions and processing in a remote landscape, all on AWS.

Our team is located in the DMV and Seattle. We work collaboratively on development projects to create tools for our customers. These tools will collect new data sources, process collected data at scale, create new data processing and reporting methods, or provide automated quality assurance on customer results.

We work closely with customers on investigations to provide the right data to answer the right question that solves their inquiry. Most cases are unique and require bespoke evidence collection and reporting.

This position involves on-call responsibilities. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice. We rotate on-call between 8 engineers, one week at a time.

Key job responsibilities
Complete customer consultations for solving complex digital forensics insider threat investigations, acquire forensically sound data from evidence sources, and perform forensic analysis on collected data sets. Invent ways or improve methods to deliver results to our customs faster, and raise the bar on Security where applicable using code and AI.

We assist internal customers including Amazon Security and Legal with investigations involving traditional evidence sources such as laptops and mobile devices, AWS cloud resources, and log diving using internal and industry standard data sources. Our investigations focus on information security and misconduct.

We also support Legal departments across the company with their e-Discovery data acquisitions of endpoints.
