eDiscovery services vision

eDiscovery Services is central to our client service offering and is an essential component of nearly all litigation matters. Our high-performing team is seamlessly integrated within our Disputes group, dedicated to delivering exceptional service to our clients.

The Counsel, eDiscovery role will work alongside Counsel and National Leader, eDiscovery as primary support on large document review projects. In addition, the eDiscovery Counsel will assist the National eDiscovery Leader with internal business development initiatives and contribute to expanding the eDiscovery Service offering within the firm. This includes providing high level substantive workflow and review strategy advice, as well as oversight and management of document review engagements to ensure legal strategy is implemented and successful outcomes are delivered. The role will also provide first-line legal support on small to medium eDiscovery projects and assist in educating lawyers and paraprofessionals in the use of technology, processes, and eDiscovery best practices. eDiscovery Counsel will collaborate with the eDiscovery Services Team, including Case Managers and Analysts, to support eDiscovery mandates and ensure effective use of technology.

The role will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to

  • Collaborate with the Counsel and National Leader, eDiscovery to define what success looks like on complex document review projects and establish workflow and quality benchmarks.
  • Develop and implement review protocols and training materials, including workflows and quality control measures, to ensure consistency, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Champion the use of appropriate technologies for eDiscovery projects, ensuring all lawyers are using technology efficiently and in accordance with defensible best practices.
  • Provide support on the business side of eDiscovery including developing use cases for new technologies, testing, development and promotion of eDiscovery best practices as well as building relationships with internal stakeholders through the promotion of the eDiscovery team’s expertise, including the adoption of new technologies and workflows.
  • Drive Managed Review and eDiscovery service standards across the firm, ensuring excellence in delivery.
  • Monitor review statistics, assess progress and budget performance, and address operational challenges to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

We are looking for

  • 6+ years of post-call experience, including at least 4 years of demonstrated experience in legal/eDiscovery including leading or supervising document review projects
  • Excellent academic and professional credentials
  • Experience working directly with clients (either internal or external)
  • Proficient in the use of Relativity® and other eDiscovery tools; experience or strong interest in working with advanced technologies, including AI and LLMs
  • Ability to manage large review teams on complex matters, implement quality control measures, and provide the team with instruction, oversight and feedback
  • Proven experience managing and supervising complex litigation, privacy breach, access to information, and competition and merger reviews
  • Ability to work with litigation teams to prepare document review protocols, train review teams and perform quality control review to ensure consistency with protocols
  • Strong analytical, communication, business development and problem-solving skills
  • Committed to providing excellent customer service
  • A high level of personal integrity and energy, dedication to teamwork and a strong desire to learn
  • Passionate about driving process improvement, collaboration and innovation as part of a cross-functional team
  • Fluency in French is an asset

BLG is a national firm with offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.  The position is open to any BLG office. The salary range reflects the potential base salary for this role. Actual compensation will depend on market conditions, business needs, and individual factors such as location, skills, experience, and qualifications.

 

 

The expected salary range for this position is $175,000 - $200,000, depending on level of experience, region/location, and other factors.
