About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Contract Attorney to support the NYPD federal monitorship. This role requires exceptional legal research and writing abilities, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced, detail‑oriented environment. The attorney will contribute to ongoing monitoring, compliance review, and reporting responsibilities related to the federal oversight process.
Position Details:
Location: New York, NY (Onsite)
Duration: 1 year
Start Date: June 2026
Pay Rate: $48–$59 per hour
Schedule: Primarily 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (with some flexibility required)
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft high‑quality memoranda, reports, and written analyses
Review, analyze, and summarize legal documents, policies, and compliance materials
Support the monitorship team in evaluating NYPD practices and adherence to federal requirements
Assist with preparation of written findings, recommendations, and formal reports
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and maintain accurate documentation
Manage workload effectively while meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards of accuracy
Qualifications
Licensed in the state of New York is required
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Strong legal research and writing skills (required)
Admission to federal court preferred
Experience level is flexible — candidates must demonstrate excellent research and writing experience, regardless of years in practice
Ability to work onsite in New York, NY
Flexibility with work hours; standard schedule is 10 AM–6 PM
Additional Information
This is a full‑time, onsite contract role with a one‑year term. The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting the federal monitorship’s mission and ensuring high‑quality legal analysis and reporting.
