Overview

Nelson Mullins , an AM Law 60 firm,  is seeking a detail-oriented and service-driven Benefits Coordinator to join its Human Resources Department in the Columbia office. This role supports the Benefits Team by delivering a high-quality employee experience through clear communication, reliability, accountability, and strict confidentiality. The ideal candidate combines strong technical benefits knowledge with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and a commitment to exceptional customer service.

A Day in the Life

The Benefits Coordinator reports to the Benefits Administrator and serves as a key point of contact for employees regarding firm benefit programs. This position plays an integral role in administering benefits, supporting compliance efforts, and assisting with employee education and annual enrollment initiatives.The role provides administrative and employee-facing support to the Benefits Team by responding to benefit inquiries, administering programs including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, FSA, HSA, COBRA, and workers’ compensation, and assisting with claims, eligibility, and benefit changes. Responsibilities also include coordinating with benefits vendors, processing workers’ compensation claims, preparing weekly claims invoices, maintaining the benefits website, supporting discrimination testing and COBRA administration, assisting with annual enrollment communications, and providing documentation for audits and Form 5500 filings, along with other assigned administrative duties.

We Know You

The ideal candidate bring strong administrative support skills, exceptional proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to proofread thoroughly while managing competing priorities. This role requires a strong work ethic, initiative, and a deep understanding of federal and state compliance requirements, including ERISA, ACA, ADA, COBRA, and HIPAA. Excellent communication skills and the ability to prepare clear, concise benefits presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint are essential. 
  • Minimum of 5+ years of benefits administration experience, preferably in a large employer environment; law firm experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of employee benefit plans and compliance requirements, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and related regulations
  • Experience supporting Leaves of Absence and ADA accommodations is a plus.
