General Purpose

The Associate Corporate Counsel, Employment and Litigation is a hands-on role for a mid-level attorney with familiarity with employment and labor laws who is eager to join a high-growth, fast-paced environment. You will support the Employment Practices Legal team by working with and supporting senior litigation counsel and the VP, Corporate Employment attorney in managing the company’s employment litigation portfolio and in advising the company’s human resources teams and facility administrators on workforce compliance employment and risk management.

Essential Duties

Employment Litigation & Claims

  • Manage and support, under supervision of senior litigation counsel, a portion of the company’s employment-related claims in across 18 states including wage and hour, wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation

  • Assist in responding to administrative agency charges (e.g., EEOC, DFEH/CRD, Labor Commissioner)

  • Draft pre-litigation position statements and settlement agreements

  • Engage in pre-litigation negotiations and mediations with opposing counsel

  • Partner with HR and other internal stakeholders on pre-litigation dispute resolution and risk mitigation

Risk Mitigation & Advisory

  • Provide practical legal advice to HR and business teams on employee relations matters as well as employment practices and policies, such as escalated background checks and employee discipline

  • Support team supervisors in developing and updating employment-related policies, procedures, and training materials

  • Assist team supervisors in providing training to business leaders upon request

Outside Counsel & Operations

  • Coordinate with outside counsel on employment litigation matters, including managing deadlines, strategy alignment, and budgets

  • Support document preservation, litigation holds, and e-discovery processes

  • Maintain organized case files and assist with reporting and tracking of claims through LegalTracker

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

  • Active membership in a state bar within the United States

  • Experience handling employment claims as either plaintiff or defense counsel or managing employment claims as in-house counsel

  • Strong familiarity with federal and state employment laws (e.g., FLSA, Title VII, ADA, FEHA, wage and hour law)

  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills

  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with heavy utilization of LegalTracker

  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills

  • Self-starter

  • Ability to translate legal risk into practical business guidance

  • Collaborative and cross-functional mindset

  • High attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Strong ability for prioritization of multiple competing matters

  • Effective communication

  • 5+ years of experience

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (typically 6–8 hours per day). Ability to stand or walk around the office environment as needed.

  • Must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing legal documents, viewing a computer monitor, and extensive reading. Must be able to communicate effectively over the phone, via video conferencing, and in person.

  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other standard office equipment (copy machines, scanners).

  • Minimal physical effort required; occasionally lifting or moving lightweight items such as legal files, laptops, or office supplies (typically up to 10–15 lbs.).

  • The role is performed in a professional, climate-controlled office environment with a moderate noise level. It requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage stress effectively due to competing deadlines and heavy caseloads.

Location: This position will be in-office at PACS Downtown Campus in Salt Lake City, Utah
