Assistant Counsel, Litigation – Denver, Colorado (Hybrid)

Western Union is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Counsel, Litigation to join our high-performing and collaborative team. This role offers the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to a broad range of litigation matters at a well-respected and purpose-driven global company.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage portfolio of assigned litigation matters, including commercial disputes, pre-litigation claims, arbitration demands, and escalated regulatory inquiries.  

  • Serve as the primary in-house point of contact for outside counsel on designated matters, including strategy, staffing, and timelines.

  • Independently manage pre-litigation and arbitration matters, driving efficient and cost-effective resolution. 

  • Partner with legal professionals and attorneys to address escalated subpoenas, consumer complaints, and eDiscovery issues.

  • Identify trends across disputes and provide feedback to internal stakeholders to mitigate future litigation risk.

  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Business colleagues on cross-functional projects.

  • Drive successful partnerships with outside counsel and manage litigation budgets.

  • Positively impact the customer experience.

Role Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar.

  • 3 to 5 + years of meaningful litigation experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.

  • Ability to provide clear, actionable legal advice based on thorough analysis.

  • Excellent negotiation and advocacy skills.

  • Experience with review of complex legal documents and/or preparation of complex legal responses/documents.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant technologies.

Salary 

The base salary range is $155,000 to $175,000 per year, total on target compensation includes a base salary plus annual incentives that align with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on candidates’ qualifications, skills, and competencies.
