POSITION SUMMARY

 

Due to growth in our practice areas, the Vancouver office is currently seeking a Litigation Paraprofessional to add to our team!  

 

The Paraprofessional will offer a blend of skills and experience providing e-discovery and litigation practice support with a primary focus in our Construction Litigation group in addition to supporting our broader litigation teams locally and nationally.  

 

The position will require a confident and reliable individual to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities and the successful applicant must be team-orientated and accustomed to working as a team with other lawyers, paraprofessionals and legal support professionals.  The ideal candidate will be available to work on-site during regular business hours with some flexibility. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Assisting lawyers with all aspects of the document collection, processing, review and production processes
  • Using litigation support and e-discovery software (Relativity) to support legal work
  • Preparing document productions and lists of documents
  • Reviewing, summarizing, and organizing documents for discoveries and trial
  • Prepare and organize materials for expert reports
  • Prepare charts, chronologies and summaries of documentary evidence for use on discovery and trial
  • Effectively manage e-discovery databases and handle electronic evidence 
  • Helping prepare for examinations for discovery, applications, and trial
  • Carry out e-discovery project management, including coordination among team members, clients, opposing counsel and external vendors
  • Prepare for examinations for discovery, applications and trials, including assembling affidavits and court records
  • Draft pleadings, bill of costs and affidavits
  • Proofread draft court documents of all levels of courts to ensure it conforms with the court rules 
  • Conduct relevant due diligence searches and summarize same

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • 8+ years’ paralegal experience in civil litigation
  • 3+ years of experience using e-discovery software with a strong understanding of both e-discovery software and litigation processes 
  • Strong technical proficiency in using e-discovery software (Relativity preferred) to manage e-discovery projects
  • Experience with complex, document-intensive matters
  • Technological proficiency, including in programs such as MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and time tracking software
  • Practice knowledge of Supreme Court Civil, Court of Appeal, and Federal Court Rules
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Strong legal analysis and critical thinking skills
  • Detail oriented and have excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with lawyers, legal assistants, and paraprofessionals 
  • Ability to prioritize high volume of tasks and competing priorities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong attention to detail, and solid work-ethic
  • Successful completion of an accredited Paralegal program preferred

The expected salary range for this role is $85,000- $100,000, commensurate with experience.
