Bird Construction’s Legal and Risk Management Team is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Law Clerk to play a pivotal role in supporting its Claims Lawyers. This role focuses on litigation and eDiscovery processes, acting as the central liaison among our internal teams, external legal counsel and technology vendors.

Reporting to our Senior Legal Counsel, Claims, the Law Clerk will oversee the eDiscovery process while leveraging our external eDiscovery partners to organize and manage our electronic data effectively. As a valued member of our team, the Law Clerk will contribute to overall litigation strategy, while shaping and maintaining best practices in eDiscovery and litigation support.

This position offers a unique opportunity for a litigation-trained professional to join a supportive and collaborative in-house environment at one of Canadian’s fastest growing construction companies.

This position is based in the Mississauga office working a hybrid model (3 days per week in office).

What You Will Be Working On

eDiscovery Management and Support

Document Review and Strategy:

  • Analyze pleadings, key documents and correspondence to understand case facts and issues.

  • Identify key project custodians and liaise with People & Culture to confirm custodian status.

  • Define timeframes and develop relevant keywords for document collection and review.

Coordination and Management:

  • Oversee the document collection, organization and management process by serving as the central contact between internal departments, external legal counsel and eDiscovery partners.

  • Manage litigation hold notices and IT consent tracking.

  • Collaborate with IT and eDiscovery partners to organize, collect and transmit data for disclosure in litigation.

Organization and Tracking:

  • Maintain an intuitive SharePoint file directory with appropriate permissions.

  • Track documents for easy retrieval and ensure adherence to deadlines and court rules.

  • Analyze data trends to support case strategy.

Efficiency and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Develop cost-effective approaches for smaller cases.

  • Stay updated on eDiscovery platforms, tools, and best practices.

Litigation/Claims Support

  • Maintain, organize and establish best practices for the Claims SharePoint site.

  • Draft standard legal documents such as releases, notices, and settlement agreements.

  • Prepare presentations for internal legal education sessions. Assist with lien bond coordination and motions to vacate under supervision

What We Are Looking For

  • Diploma or certificate in a Law Clerk or Paralegal program

  • 2+ years of experience in litigation or claims management, with eDiscovery exposure

  • No prior construction industry experience is required, however curiosity and an eagerness to learn new skills are essential attributes

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Proficient in using eDiscovery platforms and legal technology tools

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Outstanding time management skills and proven ability to handle multiple deadlines

  • Detail-oriented with a focus on adding value while simplifying processes

  • Highly adaptable, resourceful, and organized

  • Collaborative team player with excellent judgment

  • Professional, ethical, and calm under pressure
