Essential Job Functions

  • Primary owner of all aspects of commercial and employment litigation management, including responsibility for managing a busy docket, the legal hold process, collaborating with the business and legal teams in fact investigations, liaise with outside counsel, manage and coordinate discovery and collaborate with Hub’s operations and finance teams to execute settlements
  • Act as a key contact and liaison with the EEOC and other governmental agencies on managing claims and communications, working closely with Hub’s attorneys on legal deliverables
  • Perform light research and create initial drafts of letters, position statements, procedural motions, extension requests, and more
  • Serve as liaison between in-house and outside counsel and Hub Group business partners to investigate and gather information
  • Review statutes and assist with managing compliance
  • Manage Hub’s legal hold process
  • Establish and maintain relationships with outside counsel regarding legal operations processes, including implementing standard engagement terms, rate reviews, the Company’s outside counsel policy and performance tracking process, as well as managing legal billing and matter management system (Legal Tracker)
  • Develop and enforce processes and policies to manage outside counsel usage and spend
  • Lead relationships with legal vendors, including negotiating terms and developing and supporting the RFP process
  • Manage compliance with subpoenas and other statutory information requests
  • Manage special projects for Legal Department with consistent focus on continuous process improvement and efficiency
  • Maintain and report on key operational and substantive metrics that will better inform decision-making, budget/cost, and volume/efficiency
  • Identify and implement Legal Department tools to streamline new or existing practices, as well as managing design, rollout, and training for new systems
  • Assist in collection efforts

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal certificate strongly preferred
  • 8+ years of substantive experience as a legal assistant or paralegal (supporting commercial and employment litigation) and in legal operations, time at both a law firm and in-house preferred
  • Preference for experience in federal and state court litigation across multiple states
  • Preference for experience with class action litigation
  • Experience with managing e-discovery
  • Familiarity with Legal Department tools such as Legal Tracker, Relativity, etc.
  • Experience in the transportation sector a plus
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Desire to be pro-active, challenged and grow professionally—focus on creative solutions
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Outlook and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
