Trial Technology Specialist – eDiscovery

Our client, a leading Am Law firm, is seeking a Trial Technology Specialist. This fully remote role is great for someone who has both trial and graphics experience. On the trial side, hot seat and war room experience are essential. For graphics expertise, candidates should have the ability to put together exhibits, visuals, graphics, and basic demonstratives. This is a highly visible role with the opportunity to influence the tool stack and build process into the trial support offering. Candidates should come with a can-do attitude and growth mindset. Rapid growth opportunity abounds for the successful candidate, who will be remote but must be open to some travel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for preparation and presentation of evidence at trials, arbitrations, mediations, hearings, and client meetings
  • Works with trial teams to develop plans and logistics for trial or hearings using a range of trial presentation hardware and software technologies including Trial Director, OnCue, Trial Pad, and other internal and external software solutions
  • Setup, wire and configure presentation equipment such as monitors, projectors, video switchers, audio mixers, audio speakers, and other similar equipment in courtrooms and other venues as necessary
  • Responsible for exhibit presentation, overseeing the courtroom setup, and conducting ‘hot seat’ activities during trial, and war room setup
  • Works with attorneys and experts to discuss and create visuals, graphics, and demonstratives to support the theories, themes, and strategies of the case
  • Assists with the preparation of photo boards, call-outs, timelines, diagrams, maps, charts, and other demonstrative exhibits required for litigation
  • Organize and manage large document sets for visual presentations including exhibit labeling, import into presentation software databases, and other tasks needed to prepare for trial
  • Prepares and edits video transcriptions including synchronizing transcripts to digitized video and creating clips and still images from videotape
  • Creates and maintains database of source media and other related materials, including annotating, and linking exhibits to legal presentations
  • Assists with the vetting and implementation of trial support services and collaborative litigation technologies
  • Works effectively with trial teams throughout the pre-trial and trial.  Provides consulting services to litigation teams regarding the use and design of demonstratives, graphics, and multimedia presentations
  • Contributes to internal process development, preparing workflows and documentation
  • Provides software and hardware support to trial teams and resolves technical issues that may arise
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Works with members of the firm’s eDiscovery team to provide technology advice, support, and training
  • Consistently delivers proactive communication with clients and when client issues arise addresses those issues or expeditiously escalates appropriately
  • Keeps abreast of trends and changes in litigation technology, legal requirements, case law, and business technology systems. Active participation in local and online litigation technology groups is strongly encouraged
  • Tracks and enters time daily into the firm’s billing systems
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Some trial and graphics experience supporting and consulting with trial teams
  • “Hot Seat” operator in more than 10 trials
  • Proficiency in graphic design, and infographics using applications such as MS PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Smart Draw, etc.
  • Advanced skill and experience using standard courtroom presentation software such as Trial Director, Sanction, OnCue, Trial Pad, or similar presentation software
  • Experience with video deposition editing and synchronizing deposition video with transcripts
  • Familiarity with standard litigation support applications (e.g., Relativity)
  • Ideal candidates will have experience supporting mobile devices, tablets, and iPads at trial
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment under strict deadlines
  • Effectively manage multiple responsibilities while meeting budget and deadline demands
  • Travel within the United States sometimes for multiple weeks
  • Able to work overtime, weekends, and more than eight hours a day for an extended period of time when needed

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree, plus related work experience
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal and legislative documents
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  •  Ability to effectively present information to senior-level attorneys, top management, clients, and peers’ groups

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of legal and technical instructions in diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
