Trainer- Litigation Management – eDiscovery

Our client, a global law firm, is seeking an experienced Trainer- Litigation Management to join their expanding team. This is a new hybrid role within the firm that is focused on ensuring lawyers have the right Knowledge Management tools, support, and environment to provide high-quality legal services in an efficient manner. This role will be responsible for supporting the development of a Knowledge Program at the firm and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing while embedding and continuing to improve the use of Knowledge within individual Practice Groups. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong personal communication skills, legal and strategic analysis, judgment, and proactivity, as well as the ability to forge effective relationships with colleagues across the firm at all levels. This individual will be a member of project teams that gather reusable content, develop firm taxonomies, organize material for each search and reuse, investigate enhancements and new technologies, provide strategic support to lawyers, and this role will work closely with colleagues across departments, including Information Technology, Library Services, and Business Development. Individuals with a moderate to high level of technology literacy, particularly in relation to document management and other collaborative tools, Knowledge Management systems and enterprise search, MS Teams and SharePoint, database functionality, intranet, extranet, and website technology are encouraged to apply. Experience with the delivery of legal services as a paralegal, mid to senior-level associate, or counsel is a plus.

Job Summary

This individual will be a member of project teams that gather reusable content, develop firm taxonomies, organize material for each search and reuse, investigate enhancements and new technologies, provide strategic support to our lawyers, and work closely with colleagues across departments, including Information Technology, Library Services, and Business Development.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing the firm’s Knowledge strategy
  • Acting as an ambassador for knowledge in the firm
  • Promoting a knowledge-sharing culture by engaging with lawyers in our practice groups, specialty teams and industry groups to harvest reusable documents, templates, etc.
  • Building on the recent assessment of Knowledge initiatives at the firm to identify and understand current knowledge management initiatives, processes and tools in use at the firm and areas for improvement
  • Improve and expand on the implementation and use of existing knowledge-sharing practices through the use of the following:
    • Microsoft 365 Suite (Teams and SharePoint)
    • iManage Cloud
    • West KM
    • Litera Desktop
  • Contribute to related firm initiatives on the use of technology for legal service delivery
  • Working with firm leaders to ensure appropriate provision of knowledge-related services to the Practice Groups
  • Assisting with the design, development, and implementation of governance policies, systems, and processes for the collection and curation of Knowledge
  • Working with Practice Groups, including their Specialty Groups and Industry Teams, as well as the Technology Leadership Team to develop classification systems within technologies used for knowledge management that are appropriate for each Practice Group and mapping across the firm’s systems for consistent use
  • Measuring the performance of the Knowledge Program, including seeking feedback from users and acting upon it
  • Advising on new Knowledge system projects, software selection, systems upgrades and system or content migration.
  • Engaging with the firm to secure adoption of Knowledge systems and processes and overseeing related communications and training
  • Participating in practice innovation programs and promoting improvements to legal processes
  • Developing a cross-firm knowledge community through facilitating communication and coordination amongst various users.
  • Working with the HR and Learning & Development functions to ensure alignment of professional learning and Knowledge offerings

Experience and Requirements:

  • Strong previous experience in one or more senior Knowledge Management roles in a multi-national law firm
  • A naturally confident leader and strategic thinker able to assess the firm’s future needs and align Knowledge initiatives accordingly
  • Experience of electronic Knowledge Management systems, processes, and content
  • Understanding and application of effective knowledge management concepts
  • An interest in, and knowledge of, technological advances and their potential impact on Knowledge systems
  • A creative and commercial thinker who will come forward with new ideas and approaches
  • An ability to motivate and persuade lawyers to use and contribute to Knowledge systems
  • A consultative approach – the ability to communicate effectively and a willingness to listen
  • Experience of creating and implementing new programs and policies within a budgetary and time-critical framework
  • Advanced managerial skills with the ability to negotiate with and persuade others not in direct line of report and working in close partnership with internal clients
  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English, both written and spoken
  • Ability to operate and succeed under pressure in a fast-paced, highly intellectual, multi-tasking, client-service-orientated environment
  • A team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude and a passion for excellence
  • A moderate to high level of technology literacy, particularly in relation to document management and other collaborative tools, Knowledge Management systems and enterprise search, MS Teams and SharePoint, database functionality, intranet, extranet and website technology
  • Understanding of information systems and classification principles
  • Experience with delivery of legal services as a paralegal, mid to senior-level associate, or counsel
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
