The Lawyer, eDiscovery Services role will work alongside Senior Counsel, Beyond eDiscovery as primary support on large document review projects. This will entail overseeing multiple document reviewer lawyers, working alongside the leader of Beyond Legal Talent to manage document review resources to ensure legal strategy is implemented and successful outcomes are delivered. The Lawyer, eDiscovery Services will also provide first-line legal support on small to medium discovery projects and assist in educating advocates in the use of technology, processes and eDiscovery best practices to optimize their own discovery and trial preparation. At all times, the Lawyer, eDiscovery Services will work with the Director, eDiscovery and Director, eDiscovery Projects in addition to Case Managers and Analysts in support of discovery projects, ensuring technologies are being appropriately leveraged.

Your key objectives

Document Review Management

  • Collaborate with lead lawyer, Senior Counsel eDiscovery and Leader Beyond Legal Talent to define what success looks like on complex document review projects and establish work quality review milestones
  • Provide input as to the complement of freelance lawyers required to deliver successful outcomes, and oversee them, including providing training, instructions, supervision and mentorship
  • Work alongside Senior Counsel eDiscovery to efficiently conduct one or more review projects simultaneously
  • Champion the use of appropriate technologies for discovery projects, ensuring all lawyers are using technology efficiently
  • Create and implement workflows and quality control measures, to minimize risk and ensure consistency, accuracy, and completeness
  • Drive eDiscovery service standards across the firm, ensuring excellence in delivery
  • Escalate risks to quality and project deliverables to Senior Counsel eDiscovery
  • Work with technology vendors and Director, eDiscovery Projects to fine-tune technology on a project-by-project basis
  • Monitor review statistics, progress and budgets, and resolve pain points to increase efficiency and accuracy

eDiscovery Legal Support

  • Work with advocates to resolve their eDiscovery problems on non-complex issues, escalating all complex issues to Senior Counsel eDiscovery
  • Act as an information resource and work with eDiscovery Champions nationally to enhance knowledge and skill level across the firm
  • Build strong relationships with the Beyond eDiscovery team as well as the lawyers, paraprofessionals and staff at BLG
  • Assist with the promotion of Beyond eDiscovery and, in particular, large document review projects, both within and outside of BLG

  • Member of a regional Canadian Bar Association
  • 7+ years of post-call experience
  • Excellent academic and professional credentials
  • Demonstrated experience in eDiscovery and Managed Document Review
  • Proficient in the use of Relativity®
  • Ability to manage large review teams on complex matters, implement quality control measures, and provide the team with instruction, oversight and feedback
  • Ability to work with litigation teams to prepare document review protocols, train reviewers and perform quality control review to ensure consistency with protocols
  • Strong analytical, communication, business development and problem-solving skills
  • Committed to providing excellent customer service
  • A high level of personal integrity and energy, dedication to teamwork and a strong desire to learn
  • Passionate about driving process improvement, collaboration and innovation as part of a cross-functional team
  • Litigation experience is an asset
  • Fluency in French is an asset
