Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Legal Department (Toyota Legal One, or TL1) is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Warranty/Lemon Law (W/LL) Paralegal Case Manager.
The primary responsibility of this role is to independently manage and direct all aspects of a high-volume portfolio of W/LL lawsuits, claims, and related matters.
Reporting to the Managing Counsel – Business Litigation and Warranty/Lemon Law, the Paralegal Case Manager has primary responsibility for providing hands-on, self-directed, strategic oversight and management of TL1’s W/LL litigation, from initial lawsuit filing through case evaluation, motion practice, discovery, trial, and appeal, and certain pre-litigation matters. This role also provides critical legal guidance and direction to a wide variety of business stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing
- Managing a high-volume docket of W/LL litigation and pre-litigation claims, with supervisory responsibilities for case intake and assignment, day to day matter oversight, strategy, decision-making, and reporting, including:
- Managing outside law firms, experts, and consultants
- Evaluating and deciding litigation defense and potential resolution
- Attending trials and depositions and providing direction to outside counsel
- Providing strategic input and direction during client/witness interviews, meetings, and preparation sessions
- Overseeing discovery responses
- Advising on pre-litigation claims
- Providing advice and direction to a wide variety of business clients regarding W/LL issues and customer and dealer facing questions
- Conducting training sessions for business clients regarding W/LL issues
- Innovating and identifying new processes to respond to W/LL challenges
- Function effectively as part of the W/LL law team, including maintaining communication, consistent strategic direction, and coordinated case oversight with the other W/LL Paralegal Case Managers
- Oversee and direct administrative support staff
- Handle special projects and other matters as requested to support W/LL, the Litigation Group and TL1
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Extensive years of law firm or corporate law department experience as a litigation case manager and paralegal
- Takes ownership/personal responsibility for performing tasks and resolving issues
- Experience with document management system such as NetDocuments or similar
- Experience with law department matter management systems such as TeamConnect
- Experience with eDiscovery platforms such as ProSearch and Relativity
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Strong analytical, organizational, and case management skills
Added bonus if you have
- Paralegal Certificate (ABA-certified legal assistant program)
- Significant experience with warranty/lemon law and / or the automotive industry
