Department purpose
A&O Litigation are uniquely positioned within the firm to offer data services externally to our clients and internally to other departments as well as offering our core services to the Litigation team. The ability to provide professional and innovative eDiscovery services is a key part of the Litigation strategy going forward. The ability to combine our legal expertise with data-driven solutions to our clients is a compelling story to tell.

Role purpose
The eDiscovery Project Manager is responsible for providing eDiscovery guidance and support on mainland Europe-based disputes matters. The role is based in Amsterdam and will report to the London-based Global eDiscovery Operations Lead. It includes working together with (and travelling to, when required) the disputes teams in other countries including Belgium, Germany, France and the UK. The role also has responsibility of working with the Executive Director and Global Leads of Consulting and Operations to build out the eDiscovery business in Europe outside the UK.  This will require involvement in consulting, educating legal teams on eDiscovery best practices, and networking both internally and externally with clients.

Key responsibilities

  • Managing day-to-day activities of multiple, concurrent projects including interaction with internal and external clients, other team members and other AD&S teams if involved
  • Proactively satisfying internal client expectations and requirements
  • Providing Relativity support including: user access and security permissions, review workflow set-up and support, application of search logic and text analytics features and creation of  native and/or tiff productions for disclosure
  • Delivering high-quality customer service thereby fostering internal client relationships
  • Applying A&O best practice policies and guidelines to all assigned tasks
  • Taking ownership of all aspects of assigned matters including project financials
  • Facilitating engagement with third-party document review and data collection service providers when necessary
  • Determining allocation of work to assigned project team members
  • Contributing towards the continuous improvement of departmental working practices
  • Promoting and portraying eDiscovery and associated practices in a positive manner
  • Delivering end-user training sessions
  • Assisting with monthly eDiscovery operational finances
  • Maintaining and increasing industry-specific knowledge through software training, A&O courses and attendance at software demonstrations and other industry events

Key requirements

  • Certified Relativity Expert
  • Excellent customer-oriented service ethos
  • Experience with data processing tools such as Relativity or Nuix
  • Understanding of forensic data preservation tools and techniques
  • Experience utilising SQL
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail including working methodically and conducting QC
  • Ability and willingness to challenge
  • Flexibility with respect to assigned tasks and engagements due to changing deadlines, deliverables, and task priorities
  • Ability to work apace and under pressure
  • Flexibility to work beyond office hours on occasion
  • Strong organisational skills, with ability to prioritise and multi-task
  • Ability to travel when permitted
  • French and/or German language skills advantageous
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Law advantageous
