We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized individual to join our finance team as a Cash Application Specialist. The Cash Application Specialist will be responsible for accurately and efficiently processing incoming cash receipts, applying payments to customer accounts, reconciling discrepancies, and ensuring timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and exceptional attention to detail.
What You'll Do
- Receive and process incoming payments, including checks, wire transfers, ACH transactions, and credit card payments.
- Accurately apply payments to customer accounts based on provided information, invoices, and remittance advice.
- Conduct daily reconciliation of cash receipts, bank deposits, and customer accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies between payment amounts, customer records, and invoices.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including sales and customer service teams, to address payment-related inquiries and resolve customer issues.
- Identify and escalate any potential issues or irregularities in cash transactions to the appropriate department.
- Maintain accurate records of all cash transactions, including updating customer accounts and preparing related reports.
- Prepare regular cash application reports, bank reconciliations, and other financial reports as needed.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities related to cash application and general accounting processes.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to cash application and financial transactions.
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Proven work experience as a Cash Application Specialist, Cashier, Accounts Receivable Clerk, or in a similar role
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
- Proficiency in using financial software and tools, such as ERP systems and MS Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and interact with customers
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards related to cash application and financial transactions is a plus
